Onyx’s latest livejournal includes the 10 ways to marry the wrong person, with her own little personal insights to our relationship. So, I figured I’d … follow the trend? So, for your viewing (tort|pleas)ure, here’s the 10 ways to marry the wrong person, with my personal insights added after each point.

Just wanted to stop in quickly and let everyone know that I’m safe and sound in Colorado, now. There’s a lot of stuff about the trip that I would put up here, if I didn’t want to tell a certain someone personally, first. I might remember to put it all up later.
Anyway, back to moving and programming stuff.

It’s now been 10 days since my last blog entry so I figured it’s a good time to let everyone know what the heck is going on. A couple choice people (Onyx, for one) already know just about everything in this entry already, but I guess they’ll probably read it again, anyway… And away we go!
Things have been really hectic around here, with the big move to Colorado coming up, and all. Tensions are starting to get a little high with everyone. People are pissing me off. Some may take an ass kicking before I leave. It’s all in how the cards fall. In any case, I’ve been up to a lot and very little all at the same time. Work at Completely Unique is going relatively smoothly but slowly because we’re busy getting ready for the move and such.
My mother tried to organize a going away party for us for Friday. It was pretty much a bust. Only three of my friends showed up (and only one of the rest had a good excuse not to). So, Jason and I spent the entire fricken week cleaning for our own damn party that wasn’t even worth all of the time we spent cleaning for it. We got a nice game of volleyball out of it, though. And I got to see one of my really old friends that I haven’t seen in a long time, so it wasn’t too bad. It got worse, but for the sake of not starting another argument, I’ll leave that part out.
It turns out we’re going to Colorado by bus, which ruins some of our original plans, but saves us a lot of money. We’re pretty psyched about going, because we’re leaving this Thursday. The packing process starts tomorrow, because we’ve got to get a few things ready to ship out there ahead of time, so that they’ll be there when we get there. The bus ride is going to be boring, though. 32 hours. We’re taking books, Game Boys, and my laptop which will have to be used very lightly (battery only lasts for 2 hours) on the bus with us. Not to mention the pillow / blanket that’ll be stuffed into the carry-on bag.
That’s really all that’s been going on. If things will calm down a little, I’ll try to put a few words in every now and again. Daily thoughts will resume tomorrow, I hope.

Great thing about having a boss that genuinely cares about your well-being is that he’ll bend over backwards to help you out. I love working at Completely Unique for that very reason. John Fisher has done so much to help me out, since I started working there, that it’s just an honor to be able to work with a man like him. And to thank him, I’m going to work hard to ensure that Completely Unique is a successful business that our whole team can be proud of.
And I talked to Onyx again tonight. This relationship is really going so well … I mean, I got off my laptop for her and she wrote HTML for me. We had a nice little comment war on her LiveJournal that’s particularly amusing. Try not to gag from the sappiness, if you take a look at it, though. We’ll get to spend some time together soon, sweetie.
Anyway. We’ve got the money for the part, now. We’re going to pick it up and start work on the car, tomorrow. So, we should be ready to go on time, now.

We just found out this morning that the guy who was selling us the part to fix the car was trying to screw us over. I suppose we should’ve guessed when he offered to put the part on the car for only $5 more than the price he was asking for the non-existent part. What he was going to do was take our money and just “rig it up” so it would work for a while, which would’ve probably led to us getting stranded somewhere in between here and Colorado and me having to come back home and beat the ever living donkey ^@#% out of that guy.
In any case, we’re now scrambling to find another part. This has put us way behind and is probably going to screw up our financial situation more than it already is. Hopefully, we can find a replacement part in time to get it put on so that we can go.

So, I was in the middle of a conversation with Onyx and playing on Geas when all of a sudden my internet decided it wanted to die. Well, it’s bad enough that the internet died, because I was really pissed about that… but, it interrupted me when I was talking to her. Now that pissed me off.
Comcast came out here and fooled around with some stuff and it’s working again, thankfully. Now, I’ve got to try and get some work done.

Can anyone tell me what Firefox’s deal is, lately? On Windows, there’s that annoying memory leak in 1.5+, and in the latest release (1.5.0.4) on Linux it’s just unbearably slow. I’m using Opera right now, and it’s so much more responsive and manageable … too bad it doesn’t like a lot of the fancier javascript and far too many sites look like crap …

So, I’m now on the new version of Ubuntu. In the update, I ended up only having two problems. When apt went to update the gdm configuration file, my laptop decided it was time to just randomly turn off, and that interrupted the upgrade process. Luckily, that was easily rectified with a quick sudo dpkg –configure -a …
Next problem was once the upgrade was completed, my wireless decided it didn’t want to work anymore. So, I had to go into the living room and hook directly into the router to grab a few extra packages and extract my wireless card’s firmware from the driver and stuff like that. About 10 extra minutes of work, and my wireless is now working again.
And I’ve finally realised a small fraction of the extent of my geekiness. Since there wasn’t much else I could do during the upgrade, I took the laptop into the bathroom and set it up by the bathtub and took a hot, relaxing bath while I was monitoring the upgrade. So, I feel refreshed and a lot better, and my laptop is upgraded and all shiny-like. Two birds with one stone, eh?
Anyway. Time for me to get back to work.

Sometimes pictures speak louder than words:

I think I’m going to be here for a while. Excuse me while I pray for no major conflicts.
