Take Me Out to the Ballgame

I’m a programmer. I’m a geek. I don’t even like baseball. I don’t even like sports.

We were treated to a baseball game this evening for all of the hard work we’ve been doing over the time since we’ve been out here… and, I have to admit it was the best time I’ve had in a long time. We went to see the Colorado Rockies play the New York Mets (Rockies won 8 - 4, by the way). I realized even more this evening that my boss is not just my boss. In all reality, he’s my friend. Not only that, but he’s one of the best friends I’ve ever had. It’s one thing to have a good relationship with your boss or supervisor, but it’s a completely different thing for him to honestly care about you and your well-being. Sure, he gives me a hard time about the job, but it’s just because he wants me to be successful. I’m learning a lot from him, and I’m sure he’s learning from me, too.

Speaking of learning from me, he got his first taste of Blind Guardian, this evening. Not only that, but I think he liked them. Score one more for the team. It’s things like this that make working in this field worthwhile. So what if I love programming? Without the kind of boss I have, I don’t think I would be able to stand it. These situations make me look forward to work, and I think that’s how it should be. It makes the job just that much more enjoyable.

Keep coding …

Blog Hits

It’s coming up on the end of the month, so I took a look at my counter stats, and for the month of August I was surprised to see that I received 2655 (at the time of writing) hits. This is 12% more than the month of June, which is really nice. I hope all of you who read here have been at least somewhat entertained by my boring life, and those of you who come here for topics related to programming, don’t worry. I haven’t forgotten about you. There’s just a lot of things that I talked about during the Omega Vortex era that I can’t talk about during the Completely Unique era due to NDAs and things of that nature that I wasn’t restricted by before. I am working on getting some more programming-related content up, and I’d appreciate it if anyone who has anything in particular they’d like to see, just drop me a line and let me know.

The best way to do this is to send an e-mail to requests (AT) privettonphp (DOT) com … And I take requests for more than just PHP work, now. Feel request articles on anything within the following topics:

  1. PHP
  2. C
  3. C++
  4. C#
  5. ASP.NET
  6. Python
  7. Perl (good luck actually getting an article in this category, unless it’s a really good topic)
  8. MySQL
  9. SQL Server 2005
  10. Programming Theory
  11. Object Oriented Programming
  12. Team Management
  13. Project Management
  14. And More … Got something in mind, feel free to ask!

Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear from all of you during the month of September!

Binary Math

… oh, excuse me. I got side-tracked. Opened up the Wordpress Admin, and something else caught my eye. Anyway, down to business …

My last article, A Wise Bit (defunct), very vaguely touches on the concept of Binary Math. Afterwards, a few people who read this for the first time asked me about Binary Math because they were a bit confused. For the rest of you who may be interested, I directed them to the Wikipedia Entry. This is where I learned how Binary Math works, and I recommend it for anyone who’s looking to see how the Bitwise Functionality really ticks.

A Wise Guy

… err, I mean bit. A Wise Bit.

It’s been a while since I posted an article, and the last one sucked, I know. I kind of cheated to get another one up, but you’ll have to deal with it for now. I’m just way too busy. :P

For your reading pleasure, I present A Wise Bit, ripped directly from the pages of the old Privett on PHP website, thanks to the wonderful Google Cache (and Steven Harris for finding it for me).

Another Stranger Me

One of Blind Guardian’s new songs off their upcoming album “A Twist in the Myth” (released on Sept. 5th). Here’s “Another Stranger Me” …

Booked Nov. 18th

To all my loyal fans out there who want me to make guest appearances in various places, I have to apologize, but I’ve already been booked for the evening of November 18th …

In all seriousness, we just bought the tickets to the Blind Guardian concert. :D Three tickets: $85.34 … Not bad, I think. I was expecting them to be way more than that. I know what we’re doing in November, already. :P

Daily Thought: I’m Alive

My mood right now can only be described by one of my current favorite songs …

Complications, Complications … (Part 2)

Well, Onyx isn’t taking the plane… For reasons that I’ll let her say if she so desires…

Back to the drawing board. :(

Complications, Complications …

So, Onyx got to go to the bus station the other day to see about getting the tickets to get her out here this week. Turns out, said bus station recently became a gas station and the buses don’t stop there anymore. Nearest stop is in another town. Anyone mind explaining why Greyhound still sells tickets to and from that location on their website? What would’ve happened if I *had* bought tickets for me to go out there and get her? I might’ve ended up stranded in some remote location … I’m beginning to wonder if I owe the people at Greyhound a good cussing or not …

Anyway … Due to my wonderful boss who’s willing to do anything for me, Onyx now has a plane ticket to get to Denver. Only one problem. She doesn’t want to take the plane. >_< I understand why she's freaked out about it, with all the recent terrorist crap and just a general fear of flying, and doing something that big alone, but it’s quite simply a 45 minute flight and it’s all that standing between us and being together. If she doesn’t get on that plane, then it’ll be three months, at the very least, before I have the time required to go out there and get her myself. And by then, I’ll have all sorts of other financial issues that I have to worry about, because we won’t be living in this house anymore… I’ll be living by myself… Trying to take care of myself… And maybe not even having a suitable car. Not to mention if work escalates, it’s quite possible that it’ll take even longer than three months. If she doesn’t take this 45 minute flight, I might not see her until next year, and that’s really hard to have to think about …

*sigh* I just don’t know what to do … :(

More Pictures

I put a few more pictures up. I should have some more when my brother’s able to send them to me, depending on whether or not their scanner will function properly.
