Development Articles

by Jeremy on Feb.03, 2009, under General Ramblings

I’m going to try and start getting back into the swing of writing by writing new development articles to be published here on my blog. This entry is basically a call for ideas. If there’s any topic that you’d like to see me cover, let me know here! Put a comment in this entry and I’ll look into putting together an article about the topic you request. If I don’t know the topic, but I’m still interested in writing about it, I’ll research it.

I’ll be maintaining a list of planned articles in the sidebar and adding a category for the articles so they can be easily accessed from the header. If possible, I’d like to write solely based on reader-submitted ideas, so please get a few ideas in comments so I can start deciding what I want to write about first. Thanks in advance for all of your suggestions!

I know you’ve been working in Python a lot for JoS, so I’d love to hear how your experience with Python compares to PHP.

I’m also interested in your thoughts about the process of writing tests for apps/programs. I haven’t seen too many tutorials covering this (maybe I just haven’t looked). As a self-educated coder who started working in the private sector, I’d love to hear what your various projects have used and what your preferred testing methods are.

If you’ve used any deployment applications (such as Capistrano or Fredistrano), I’d be curious over how one gets started to using one of these applications (best practices).
