PHP Developers Suck

I think I’m going to change my technology focus. Now that I’ve stepped outside of my circle of really talented and competent people, I’ve learned that PHP Developers suck. I’ve been trying to hire people for a big project that we’re working on, and I am absolutely amazed by the number of unreliable and/or absolutely terrible programmers that I’ve talked to.

PHP is suitable for “enterprise development”. The problem is, only 1% of everyone who knows PHP actually knows what “enterprise development” is supposed to mean.

Maybe this’ll all have a happy ending, but this has so far been pretty close to the top, if not the top, of my list of “Worst Birthdays Ever” …

    1. Thats because PHP is so accessible and easy to use that every idiot who can echo “Hello World” thinks he is a programmer.

    2. Real PHP programmers are dudes who have used the language for purposes other than hypertext processing.

    3. You get what you pay for.

    1. I received resumes from and interviewed people who claimed to have 5+ years in programming, including languages besides PHP.

    2. I’ve seen the language used for a lot of different things and I’ve personally used it for a lot of different things. I was looking for someone who is proficient at using it for what it’s designed to be used for.

    3. I don’t think the pay we were offering was at all unreasonable. Matter of fact, depending on the level of experience, it could’ve been considered reasonably high.

Oh, and I am a PHP Developer. I have been for quite a number of years now. I guess that means I rock.
